Background
Step 3 focused on refining our ideas from Step 2 through the use of a decision matrix. Step 2 left us with three possible designs that incorporated the sub-functions we found to be most important for our speaker. In order to narrow down our options to a single design, we decided on five evaluation criteria that we found necessary for our project, including sound quality, sound direction, portability, attachment versatility, and accurate connection. We then assigned weights (numeric values) to each criteria. Once we filled it out, this matrix depicted not only the relationship between each individual function and our corresponding possible solutions, but the criteria we valued the most. Through the organization of this classification scheme, we were able to pick one sub-function concept from each row to form a total concept that incorporated the best elements of each design. This process is illustrated in the document attached below.
